Sick teen’s final video tribute

An 18-year-old American boy who died on Christmas Day has garnered worldwide attention for a series of heart-breaking videos he recorded weeks before his death.

Ben Breedlove suffered from a life threatening heart condition which caused him to have multiple heart attacks in his short life.

Called ‘My story’, he recorded the video on December 18, 2011 to prepare his family and friends for his eventual passing. He uses a series of flash cards to explain why death no longer scares him.

He describes his first near death experience that happened when he was just four years old and talks about a bright light that brought him peace.

In his most recent near death experience, he was in a room with his favourite rapper, Kid Cudi

"I couldn't stop smiling," he writes in the video, "I was proud of myself, of my entire life, everything I have done. It was the BEST feeling... I didn't want to leave that place. I wish I NEVER woke up."

His final words are: "Do you believe in Angels or God?... I Do."

On Christmas night, the young Austin school student died of a heart attack, the fourth in his short life.

His inspiring and heartbreaking story has now become a online hit, inspiring millions worldwide.

Rapper Kid Cudi wrote on his blog:

"Iam [sic] so sad about Ben Breedlove. I watched the video he left for the world to see, and him seeing me in detail, in his vision really warmed my heart. I broke down, Iam to tears because I hate how life is so unfair. This has really touched my heart in a way I cant describe, this is why I do what I do. Why I write my life, and why I love you all so much. Life is really fucked up sometimes, but I know Ben is at Peace, and I hope he gets a chance to sit and talk with my Dad. We love you Ben. Forever. Thank you for loving me. To Ben’s family, you raised a real hero, he’s definately [sic] mine. You have my love." — Scott Mescudi

Christmas Miracle !!! Christmas Miracle !!!

Readied To Donate Organs, 21-Year-Old Emerges From Coma

Sam Schmid, an Arizona college student believed to be brain dead and poised to be an organ donor, miraculously recovered just hours before doctors were considering taking him off life support.

Schmid, a junior and business major at the University of Arizona, was critically wounded in an Oct. 19 five-car accident in Tucson.

The 21-year-old's brain injuries were so severe that the local hospital could not treat him. He was airlifted to the Barrow Neurological Institute at St. Joseph's Medical Center in Phoenix, where specialists performed surgery for a life-threatening aneurysm.

As hospital officials began palliative care and broached the subject of organ donation with his family, Schmid began to respond, holding up two fingers on command. Today he is walking with the aid of a walker, and his speech, although slow, has improved.

Doctors say he will likely have a complete recovery. He even hopes to get a day pass from the hospital to celebrate the holidays with his large extended family.

"Nobody could ever give me a better Christmas present than this -- ever, ever, ever," said his mother, Susan Regan, who is vice-president of the insurance company Lovitt-Touche.

"I tell everyone, if they want to call it a modern-day miracle, this is a miracle," said Regan, 59, and a Catholic. "I have friends who are atheists who have called me and said, 'I am going back to church.'"

Schmid's doctor, renowned neurosurgeon Dr. Robert Spetzler, agreed that his recovery was miraculous.

"I am dumb-founded with his incredible recovery in such a short time," said Spetzler. "His recovery was really remarkable considering the extent of his lethal injuries."

Hospital officials are crediting Spetzler with having a "hunch" that despite an initially dire prognosis, the young man would make it. But he said it was "reasonable" for others to consider withdrawing the patient from life support.

"It looked like all the odds were stacked against him," said Spetzler, who has performed more than 6,000 such surgeries and trained the doctor who operated on Congressman Gabrielle Giffords after she was shot at the beginning of this year.

During surgery, Spetzler clipped the balloonlike aneurysm in the blood vessel -- "as if I were patching a tire," a procedure that eventually worked.

For days Schmid didn't seem to be responding, but what puzzled his doctor was that he did not see fatal injuries on the MRI scan. So he decided to keep Schmid on life support longer.

"There was plenty wrong -- he had a hemorrhage, an aneurysm and a stroke from the part of the aneurysm," Spetzler said. "But he didn't have a blood clot in the most vital part of his brain, which we know he can't recover from. And he didn't have a massive stroke that would predict no chance of a useful existence."

So while the family was given a realistic picture of Schmid's poor chances for survival, Spetzler ordered one more MRI to see if the critical areas of the brain had turned dark, indicating brain death.

"If not, we would hang on and keep him on support," he said. "But I didn't want to give the family false hope."

Schmid's mother said no one "specifically" asked if her son would be a donor, but they "subtly talk to you about quality of life."

"At some point, I knew we had to make some sort of decision, and I kept praying," said Regan.

The MRI came back with encouraging news during the day and by evening Schmid "inexplicably" followed the doctors' commands, holding up two fingers.

"It was like fireworks all going off at the same time," said Spetzler.

Today, Schmid -- his speech clear and sounding upbeat -- told ABCNews.com, "I feel fine. I'm in a wheelchair, but I am getting lots of help."

Sam Schmid Has No Memory of the Accident

He said he remembers nothing of the accident nor coming around after being in an induced coma. "It wasn't until I woke up in rehab," he said. "But they told me about afterwards."

Schmid was returning from coaching basketball at his former Catholic school when a van swerved into his lane. The Jeep in which he was riding went airborne, hit a light pole and landed on its side.

Schmid's left hand and both of his femurs broke and required surgery. But the worst were the traumatic head injuries, which were complex and nearly always fatal.

All those involved say the support that Schmid got from family and friends -- and especially the care at Barrow -- may have made the difference. His brother John, a 24-year-old IT specialist, took a leave of absence from his job in Chicago to be at his brother's bedside.

Family flew in from around the country, and Delta Chi fraternity brothers made regular visits, even creating a mural for their friend.

"It seems like we were being led down a path to plan for the worst and that things were not going to work out," said John Schmid. "The miracle, to put it bluntly, was that in a matter of seven days, we went from organ donation to rehab. What a roller coaster it was."

He said his brother's speech is slow, but he understands what others are saying. Sam Schmid's athleticism -- as a basketball coach and snowboard instructor -- probably helped, he said.

"Honestly, I am at a loss for words," said John Schmid. "I am just so proud of Sam. He's got a strong constitution and he's very determined. But it's been quite an eye-opener for me -- a real learning curve. You can't take anything for granted."

Sam Schmid's surgeon agrees.

"You get incredible highs when you save someone facing neurological devastation or death," said Spetzler. "That is counter-pointed by the incredible lows when you fail to help someone."

"In a way, his recovery was truly miraculous," he said. "It's a great Christmas story."

Ever the scientist, Spetzler wasn't willing to speculate what a comatose patient hears. But he admits, "There are so many things we don't understand about the brain and what happens at the time someone is near death."

"The whole family was at his side during the day and at night hovering over him, then to see there was a chance after being ready to let go," he said. "But I am very much a big believer that positive thoughts and positive energy in a room can only help."

The GREATEST MYSTERY of ALL

Jesus Christ: The Singularity of Christmas

By Dr. Jeff Mirus | December 19, 2011 4:52 PMThe Pope’s reflections on the Virgin Birth as a warranty of the divinity of her Son remind me of the events which scientists describe with the term “singularity”. Because a virgin birth cannot be explained by any natural process which precedes it, a Catholic would call it a miracle; but a scientist, sticking closely to his own craft, calls it a “singularity”.

This is how physicists label the Big Bang, a primordial explosion out of nothing that, as far as we now know, initiated the universe. By its very nature, the Big Bang cannot be caused by a natural process. Some scientists, refusing to travel a metaphysical road on their own time, try to hide their confusion in denial, making up various nursery tales to explain the Big Bang, such as the fable of the “bouncing universe”. But for many others, the Big Bang is one of those scientific theories which comes very close to being a proof for the existence of God.

Of course any proof for the existence of God based on a scientific theory would fail if the theory were altered in a significant way by further research, just as any proof based on an historical event would fail if the witnesses to that event could be shown to be mistaken. Yet the idea of Singularity remains valuable as a means of marking the limits of nature and the need for something that goes beyond nature.

The Virgin Birth cannot be proven, even by the testimony of those with an absolute trust in the veracity of Mary, for none were in a position to monitor her every moment. But it is a logical explanation for later events that many did witness directly—namely the remarkable miracles of Mary’s Son, His cruel and certain death, and His subsequent Resurrection. The Immaculate Conception is in an even more obscure category, for it could not be proved by any number of witnesses who might have surrounded St. Anne and her illustrious daughter at every moment of their existence. Yet it too serves to explain—and be explained by—the remarkable career of Mary’s only Son.

The new translation of the Order of the Mass in English states that Son of God was “incarnate of the Virgin Mary”—a trifle awkward, perhaps, but far more accurate than “born of the Virgin Mary”, which is not what the original Latin says. The Incarnation is a moment of conception and not of birth. The Virgin Birth is a consequence of the Incarnation, just as the Immaculate Conception is a fitting preparation for it. And it is the fact of the Incarnation itself which ultimately explains Mary’s Son. It turns out he is God’s Son as well.

Jesus Christ is a singularity Who cannot be understood as the result of any previous natural process. Innumerable smaller singularities—the prophecies, the teachings, the miracles, the Church, the sacraments, the martyrs, the saints—simply serve to throw the main singularity into sharper relief. Here we have heaven and earth in God’s only begotten Son, the Lord of Lords and the Uncaused Cause—oh, and the explanation for the Big Bang, too.

This is hard to grasp, but we are being given yet another chance. For here he comes again, the little child we never could teach to restrain his love.

UK is a Christian nation, Cameron emphasizes
December 20, 201In a speech commemorating the 400th anniversary of the King James Bible, Prime Minister David Cameron emphasized that the United Kingdom is a Christian nation.

“We are a Christian country,” he said. “And we should not be afraid to say so … what I am saying is that the Bible has helped to give Britain a set of values and morals which make Britain what it is today. Values and morals we should actively stand up and defend. The alternative of moral neutrality should not be an option. You can’t fight something with nothing. Because if we don’t stand for something, we can’t stand against anything.”

“Those who oppose this usually make the case for secular neutrality,” he added. “They argue that by saying we are a Christian country and standing up for Christian values we are somehow doing down other faiths. And that the only way not to offend people is not to pass judgment on their behavior. I think these arguments are profoundly wrong. And being clear on this is absolutely fundamental to who we are as a people, what we stand for, and the kind of society we want to build.”

In a possible swipe at Catholic teaching on women’s ordination, Cameron, an Anglican, said that the Bible has been “at the forefront of the emergence of democracy, the abolition of slavery, and the emancipation of women--even if not every church has always got the point.”

When Tragedy Strikes Paradise at Christmas

When Tragedy Strikes Paradise at Christmas.

Last week as early as Tuesday, there were warnings that a storm was coming.  It was supposed to be a small one so no panic.  It made landfall last Thursday and passed through the southern Philippine island of Mindanao.  I did not give it much thought; after all it was far away from us and just caused rains in Manila.  I was more worried about a wet Christmas.

Saturday afternoon, I got the shock of my life and could not believe the BBC when it reported 215 dead and 400 missing.  WHAT?????  Turning quickly to the local news channel, it hit me.  I could not believe the images.  What happened was truly incredible.

Tragedy had stricken paradise!!! I say paradise because that part of the country, Cagayan de Oro and Iligan, is not usually struck by typhoons.  The last they had was 40 years ago.  And boy was this treacherous.  The flash flood came at 1 am in the morning, while all were asleep.  Lulled into a deep sleep, no doubt, by the cool temps and the beating of the rain, but never to awake again.

By Monday, the news was more horrible and the images more painful to see.  Whole villages gone.  A lot of mud, debris, and uprooted trees where houses use to stand.  Bloated bodies were lined up waiting for identification.  Funeral homes overwhelmed.  Mothers and Fathers half crazy looking for their beloved children and other loved ones.  Children looking for their parents.  Really disturbing to see were various Pietas (mothers carrying their dead children) with that look on their faces.  By now, the death toll had risen to 600 and lots more missing.  It is hard to remember the last time I cried watching the news.

I have been having the Christmas Blues and after the news immediately fell into a depression with fits of anger.  This is a real test to faith.  I started grumbling, why, what, how come, and millions of angry questions in my mind trying to rationalize the situation.  I helped where I could and gave what I could.  Yes, tears welled up in anger and helplessness every time I prayed and while at mass.  And that is when God nudged me….

Today, I did not want to watch the news, but had to.  The death toll today is 947 and 600 missing.  What struck me was the tremendous and immediate response from the rest of the archipelago.  There was news that a navy ship was leaving Manila for Mindanao and individuals went to the ship to bring their donations, some of them on bikes.  The province of Pampanga is sending 400 coffins to the island for free.  The local water district had sent mobile purifying stations to the island.  Almost all the big companies are sending goods and men to help.  A mobile forensics lab had arrived in Cagayan from Cebu.  TV personalities already have a schedule on who will go there on what day to help.  It was also described that old clothes and blankets were flying off closets everywhere in the country.  The military had suspended all Christmas parties and sent the fund for that to the island instead.  This was also done by many public schools and private companies.

Gruesome but touching, was seeing a rescuer dig up a dead child.  He removed his shirt to clean the baby and the people around started pouring drinking water to help before the child was handed to the parents.  The survivors have started cleaning up what could be cleaned.  And most importantly, children have started playing again.

Conspicuously absent was the usual finger pointing, politicking, and blame assigning that is so staple in Philippine life.  :O  J

The news was not that painful at all, in fact, it was heart warming in a way.  I cried now knowing that everybody was moving to do something.  Maybe it helped that people have a little extra in December (13th month pay is a law in the Philippines).

Today, it was announced during mass and in the news that all the donations collected during the traditional nine-day dawn mass (Misa de Gallo) will go to that effort as decreed by our bishop in Manila.  I hope all the other bishops follow for it will be a lot because all of our churches are filled to the brim and overflowing during these masses.  (There are more than 600,000 churches in the Philippines plus 20 million chapels)

This will not be the Merriest Christmas I will ever experience, but I assure you, this will be the most BLESSED I will live through.

This is the very first Christmas that I will see when all are more concerned on the Christmas of another than that of their own, more concerned about the Christmas of another family other than their own.

I salute that woman in the news, washing the mud off from the clothes they managed to salvage, when asked, “What about your Christmas?”  “Tuloy ang Pasko”, she answered without batting an eyelash.  “Tuloy ang Pasko” = We will have one, and she had no house.

When tragedy strikes paradise at Christmas….

CHRISTMAS JUST STRIKES BACK.

Miracle

Paralympian eyes Olympic glory after “miracle” crashUTRECHT, The Netherlands, December 8 (Reuters) -

Paralympic silver medallist Monique van der Vorst has miraculously become an able-bodied Olympic hopeful after a crash reversed her paralysis.

Paralysed from the hip down since she was 13, the 27-year-old handcyclist, who has just signed with the Rabobank women’s professional cycling team to compete as a top-class able-bodied athlete, was hit by a bicycle last year while training in her wheelchair for the 2012 London Paralympics.

While recovering from the trauma, van der Vorst’s feet started to tingle and miraculously she began to move them again. From that point on she spent months in the hospital and in the rehabilitation centre trying to regain the use of her legs.

She told Reuters that when she took her first steps again in July 2010, she felt just like a child learning to walk.

“I wanted to jump in the air for joy,” van der Vorst said this week, and recalled how great and surprising it was to look at herself standing in front of a mirror.

Doctors have no explanation for her amazing recovery. Some believe the trauma of her last accident may have jolted her body back into activity.

But the realities of her new-found joy also put an immediate end to a successful athletic career.

“Although walking is the best thing you could do in life, I immediately missed the sport, the people and the challenges,”van der Vorst said.

Rehabilitation and physiotherapy with an athletic focus strengthened her and as soon as she sat on a bike she again wanted to give it a try.

“The spirit is in my body,” she said.

Despite a near-crash the first time she cautiously climbed aboard a racing bicycle for able-bodied athletes, van der Vorst got back on her bike and carried on to complete a painful and slow 30 km training route and has not looked back since.

Although she is not on the same cycling level as the other women on the Rabobank cycling team, her willpower is enormous and the team is confident van der Vorst will quickly catch up.

When you consider van der Vorst won two silver medals at the 2008 Beijing Paralympics, was elected Dutch disabled athlete of the year in 2009, was the first handcycle athlete to win the 2009 Ironman world championship in Hawaii, her goal of riding in the 2016 Rio Olympics does not appear unrealistic.

Meaningful Words

Very Meaningful words to keep.
Someone has written these beautiful words.

One must read and try to understand the deep meanings in them.
They are like the Ten Commandments to follow in life all the time.

1] Prayer is not a "spare wheel" that you pull out when in trouble; it is a "steering wheel" that directs us in the right path throughout life.

2] Do you know why a car's windshield is so large & the rear view mirror is so small? Because our past is not as important as our future. So, look ahead and move on.

3] Friendship is like a book. It takes few seconds to burn, but it takes years to write.

4] All things in life are temporary.  If going well enjoy it, they will not last forever. If going wrong don't worry, they can't last long either.

5] Old friends are like Gold! New friends are Diamonds! If you get a Diamond, don't forget the Gold! Because to hold a Diamond, you always need a base of Gold!

6]  Often when we lose hope and think this is the end, GOD smiles from above and says, "Relax, sweetheart, it's just a bend, not the end!

7] When GOD solves your problems, you have faith in HIS abilities; when GOD doesn't solve your problems HE has faith in your abilities.

8] A blind person asked St. Anthony: "Can there be anything  worse than losing eye sight?" He replied: "Yes, losing your vision."

9] When you pray for others, God listens to you and blesses them; and sometimes, when you are safe and happy, remember that someone has prayed for you.

10] Worrying does not take away tomorrow's troubles; it takes away today's peace.

your first Christmas Card

           FIRST CHRISTMAS CARD

Cleverly done!!!

 T'was the Month before Christmas

T'was the month before Christmas

When all through our land,

Not a Christian was praying

Nor taking a stand.

See the PC Police had taken away

The reason for Christmas - no one could say.

The children were told by their schools not to sing

About Shepherds and Wise Men and Angels and things.

It might hurt people's feelings, the teachers would say

December 25th is just a ' Holiday '.

Yet the shoppers were ready with cash, checks and credit

Pushing folks down to the floor just to get it!

CDs from Madonna, an X BOX, an I-Pod

Something was changing, something quite odd!

Retailers promoted Ramadan and Kwanzaa

In hopes to sell books by Franken & Fonda.

As Targets were hanging their trees upside down

At Lowe's the word Christmas - was no where to be found.

At K-Mart and Staples and Penny's and Sears

You won't hear the word Christmas; it won't touch your ears.

Inclusive, sensitive, Di-ver-si-ty

Are words that were used to intimidate me.

Now Daschle, Now Darden, Now Sharpton, Wolf Blitzer

On Boxer, on Rather, on Kerry, on Clinton !

At the top of the Senate, there arose such a clatter

To eliminate Jesus, in all public matter.

And we spoke not a word, as they took away our faith

Forbidden to speak of salvation and grace

The true Gift of Christmas was exchanged and discarded

The reason for the season, stopped before it started.

So as you celebrate 'Winter Break' under your 'Dream Tree'

Sipping your Starbucks, listen to me.

Choose your words carefully, choose what you say

Shout MERRY CHRISTMAS,

not Happy Holiday !

Please, all Christians join together and

wish everyone you meet

MERRY CHRISTMAS

Christ is The Reason' for the Christ-mas Season!
